Amazon recently launched Amazon Collections, a Pinterest-style feature consumers can use to save, share, and discover products. Meanwhile, Pinterest debuted a new price alert feature (on the same day, no less) to encourage users to buy more of the items they’ve pinned.
As TechCrunch says, Amazon’s decision to overtly mimic a competing service “to some extent validates the traction Pinterest is seeing with e-commerce referrals.” But will the feature take hold, or will it become just one more failed experiment in social commerce functionality?
