Etsy has set itself apart from the rest of the e-commerce world by offering up one-of-a-kind treasures such as handmade jewelry and vintage toys.
The online marketplace has about 850,000 sellers and reported $895 million in sales last year.
Etsy also strives to help its sellers to bridge the online and offline worlds. Etsy-branded craft fairs bring together shoppers and sellers. More recently, the department store Nordstrom and the furniture chain West Elm began stocking Etsy-branded products.
According to a recent Forbes article, Etsy has begun testing Etsy Wholesale, “a business-to-business platform by which retailers ranging from national chains to museum shops and local boutiques sell the wares of Etsy vendors and designers in their stores.”
These collaborations end up being a win for both Etsy and their brick-and-mortar partners. The partnerships extend Etsy’s reach beyond e-commerce while at the same time bringing “local character” to retail stores.
