While the company has yet to reveal many details of the new program, it sounds like subscribers will receive monthly shipments of food and &#8220;artisanal&#8221; items. The items would be a picked by Walmart each month and would remain a mystery to the consumer until the box arrives.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the opportunity to re-enact the movie &#8220;Seven&#8221; every month, Goodies is one more example of Walmart&#8217;s attempt to <a href=\"http:\/\/content26.com\/blog\/walmart-struggles-to-catch-its-e-commerce-rivals\/\" target=\"_blank\">catch up with its e-commerce rivals<\/a>. <strong>Amazon<\/strong> offers a subscription service as do specialty e-tailers such as <strong>Birchbox Inc<\/strong>, <strong>Citrus Lane<\/strong>, and <strong>JustFabulous<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Two analysts interviewed by Internet Retailer also believe the Goodies is an attempt by Walmart to lure customers interested in high-end, expensive products.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It would be an interesting way to identify customers who are interested in higher-end products,&#8221; Nikki Baird, managing partner at research and advisory firm Retail Systems Research said.&#8221;Walmart has long been trying to attract and retain those customers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Read more about Walmart&#8217;s subscription service plan at <a
